it’s always the season for shirtless runner boys somewhere

i legitimately love packing houses

or at least could easily write tons and tons about the people and the sensation of participating moving people around.
but i won’t do that here.

i mean, it makes for pretty freaking long days (6:45 am to 7:15 pm today) but it’s really neat.

especially finding all these strange little connections with people you’ve never met before.

ran today with a friend from work and after standing all day then running i feel like i should have taken an ice bath hahaha.

but okay bed time. work starts super early.

Friendly reminders for summer training;

adistancerunner:

  1. Warm up before running. Get them high knees, butt kicks, lunges in. Cause life can wait but injury prevention cannot.
  2. Water = Best friend. Every time you stand up fill up that water bottle. Drink out of that bottle until you are subconsciously doing it. Drink it while you sleep. Drink it while you eat. Drink it while you pee.
  3. Speaking of sleep, get plenty of it. Sure, some nights it’s alright to stay up a bit late. But try to make a habit of going to bed early and waking up early. Champions aren’t made by sleeping through breakfast. Waking up at 7am is way more rewarding when it’s done by sunlight after 8+ hours of sleep. Don’t let it fool you.
  4. Healthy eating for life man. Get those leafy greens and fruity fruits in your meals. All around, eating healthier will make you a better person. Just do it.
  5. Weight lifting. Secret number 1 of training. Being strong as a whole beats being strong just in the legs and lungs. Get those arm, back, ab, butt, and whatever else muscles you can find.
  6. Yoga. Secret number 2 of training. Go get flexible as fuck. Doing anything and everything will be with so much more ease when your muscles aren’t tight and unbendable. Plus it’s a great workout, stress reliever, and relax. Anyone who is anyone does yoga.
  7. Cross-Training. Secret number 2.5 of training. Don’t burn yourself out with just running. Don’t do it. Someday let’s say you get invited to go swimming. DO IT. Swim. Bike with a friend. Shoot some hoops. Dance to mother effin justin bieber. Just do something that gets you active but isn’t straight up running. Running knows you love it, it’ll let you hang with your friends some days. Running understands.
  8. Whatever you do, MAKE SURE YOU STRETCH. Stretch during your run. Stretch after you run. Stretch before you go to bed. Stretch while you’re in line at walmart. Stretch here. Stretch there. Stretch everywhere. Except in bathrooms. I wouldn’t recommend that.
  9. Listen to your damn body. Feeling exhausted? Feeling a little too sore? Feeling like an egg sitting on a stove getting done sunny-side up? Take a day off. Hell, take two. Missing a couple days won’t do anything to your training as a whole. Miss two days or miss two months? If Mo Farah can back out of an international race you can sure as hell back out of a 3 mile run by yourself.
  10. Embrace the sun. It’s summer. It will be warm at times. You will sweat. You will smell. But that’s the perks of being a runner. Use the sweat as motivation. Because there’s a 100% that if you are dripping in sweat and working out that you will look bad ass.
  11. Summer training is where you do you. This is where the winner and the second place finisher get’s separated. You like long runs? You do long runs. You like interval runs? You do interval runs. You like getting up at 5am to do laps in a pool? YOU DO THAT. This is where where champions are made. Where you define yourself. Get out there and do it. Become your own hero.

Have fun. Be smart. Drink water. Sleep. Listen to your body. But above all, get out there and kick some ass.

always a good night with the track fam, even if there’s only one of us still on the team.

lol wearing a sportsbra backwards would basically be the exact opposite of wearing a sportsbra
